Euthanasia, also known as having a horse ‘put to sleep’ or ‘put down’, is an eventuality that many horse owners and keepers sadly have to face at some point. It is an important subject, yet it is an aspect of horse care that is often not given enough consideration. In the event of an emergency, a lack of forward planning can make matters worse.
Being prepared and knowing what to do in the event of sudden death or necessary euthanasia of your horse, pony or donkey ensures that you don’t have to organise arrangements in the midst of grieving.
We offer expert advice and a professional, humane service for animal termination, collection and disposal. Our company is local authority approved (and DEFRA animal by-products approved) and all our staff are fully trained in the dispatching of livestock and horses with many years of experience under their belt.
We work closely with local farmers and horse owners to ensure safe and humane collection and disposal of animals and we also provide a coordinated service with veterinary practices within our area, should a client require an animal to be euthanised.
We are licensed to put down horses by way of a free bullet humane killer which causes instantaneous death. This method is deemed to be the most humane and kind way to put a horse to sleep.
We are able to carry out this service at the convenience of your own facilities, or wherever an emergency situation may arise, alternatively you are welcome to bring your horse to our facilities.
We can deal with you personally, or liaise with your local vet at the stables or paddock to provide a coordinated service should you wish to have your horse euthanized. Furthermore, we can provide an experienced assistant to hold your horse during this process if you prefer not to be around on the occasion.
